Hot Chicken Takeover Spices Up Old Worthington

hctMark your calendars, friends! Hot Chicken Takeover’s popular Neighborhood Tour is rolling into Old Worthington – and trust us, you don’t want to miss it.

Best known for its spicy-hot fried chicken, fair-chance hiring practices and southern hospitality, Hot Chicken Takeover (HCT) has come a long way since opening a pop-up chicken window in Olde Towne East. Today, the wildly popular restaurant is located at the North Market, and people often wait in long lines just to get a taste of the Nashville-style chicken.

In the fall of 2014, the community funded HCT’s first food truck through a successful Kickstarter campaign. And every year the company chooses a handful of Columbus locations to include in its Neighborhood Tour. Each stop features a unique theme and benefits a community organization that works for the good of that particular neighborhood. In Worthington’s case, that organization is the Old Worthington Partnership.

“We are thrilled to be included on the Hot Chicken Takeover Neighborhood Tour,” said Annina Parini, executive director at the Old Worthington Partnership. “Many of our merchants will remain open during the event, allowing folks to experience all that Old Worthington has to offer.”

The spicy details

The free event, which will take place on October 13 from 5 to 9 p.m., will be held in front of House Wine in the Quarter parking lot. The folks from HCT will be serving up their famous chicken, sandwiches, lil’ chick meals and delicious southern fixings like macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, sweet tea and Boylan’s soda.

If that isn’t enough to pique your interest, you’ll be excited to learn that the Rhinegeist beer truck will be there as well. The Cincinnati brewery will join Hot Chicken Takeover in donating a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Partnership’s ongoing efforts to improve Old Worthington.

While you’re feasting on delicious chicken, plan to walk around and explore the neighborhood. From the merchants in the Quarter, including House Wine, The Candle Lab, RIDEhome, Elli Nail Spa, A Taste of Vietnam and Graeter’s Ice Cream, to the many specialty shops and restaurants that line High Street, you’ll find friendly neighbors, local goods and small-town charm.

Tables and chairs will be provided, but you can also grab a seat inside House Wine. The specialty wine and beer shop is planning a fun pairing for each of Hot Chicken Takeover’s spice levels. The question is, are you brave enough to order HCT’s insanely hot “holy” chicken?
