fall brochureMuch like the New Year, fall marks a distinct beginning for many people. Whether you’re a parent enjoying some newfound freedom, a student looking for extracurricular activities or just a lover of the arts and eager to perfect your skills, the Peggy R. McConnell Arts Center (MAC) has a class for you. In fact, their fall class brochure is loaded with creative courses the entire family can enjoy. Here’s a closer look:

Youth Programming

  • Ballet – Looking for a fantastic class for your little ballerina? The MAC is partnering with Ballet Met, Columbus’ premiere ballet company, to bring you a host of themed ballet classes for the fall and winter. From a tea party extravaganza to scenes from the Nutcracker Suite, your child will learn to plié with the pros. mucis class
  • Art – As you might expect, art classes at the MAC are the real deal. From offerings like Adventures in Photography to The Art of Cartooning and Learn to Draw, kids as young as 7 can experience classes that are typically reserved for older individuals.
  • Special Workshops – Looking for childcare on teacher in-service days? No worries, the MAC has you covered. They’re offering full-day workshops like iSavvy: Social Media Awareness for Kids and Mini Camp Creativity Days to fill a much-needed gap in the community. Be sure to check out their Saturday workshops as well, which include offerings like Ceramics – My First Planter and Play in a Day – Masquerade Bash. ceramics

“Our youth classes are always very popular, said Missy Donovan, director of programs and outreach. “We’re proud to offer a wide age range and to introduce children to an in-depth variety of artistic expressions.”

Adult Programming

  • Yoga – From basic yoga to artistically inspired styles like Renaissance and Masterpiece Yoga, folks will love taking classes in the MAC’s new dance studio. Join certified yoga instructor Stacie Stormer as she integrates art and movement throughout each of her 7-week sessions. MAC yoga
  • Art – Whether you’re a novice who is interested in trying your hand at a new art form or an experienced painter looking to broaden your horizons, the MAC offers an extensive lineup of courses and workshops to get you started. From a wide array of ceramics classes to acrylic and oil painting, drawing, writing, photography and printmaking courses, students will receive exceptional instruction, making it possible to take their skill to the next level.
  • Music – If you play an acoustic instrument (think guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, bass, etc.) and you’d like to connect and jam with other musicians in a non-threatening environment, the MAC’s Acoustic Roots Ensemble course is for you. Sign up for the first ensemble and then move on to the recording session where you will learn to rehearse, arrange and record your own music.

“Whether it’s through our classes, exhibits, concerts or shows, we offer a point for every person to engage in an artistic experience at the MAC,” Donovan said. “From beginner through advanced and preschool through adults, we provide opportunities for people to encounter art in new and different ways.” painting
